How to hang out with your friends online during quarantine

Quarantine can be hard at times, especially when you feel the need to socialize, so we have come up with a few ways you and your friends can hang out while keeping your distance!

In this blog post I will share with you different apps you can use to chat and video call with your friends and fun games you can play!

#1 houseparty - a mobile app

Why use houseparty?

• they have games built into the app (heads up!, trivia, chips and guac, and quick draw)

• You can share screens

How to use houseparty:

inviting friends:

to invite your friends, click the top right 'plus' sign and either click "add friends" and search for their username, or click "invite new friends" and copy the link and send it to them via text. To accept a friend request, click the top left red square, which will take you to a list of people trying to add you.

#2 Google meets - you can use it on your phone or laptop

Why use google meets?

• you can have up to 200 people on one call

• you can share screens

• you can use it on either phone or laptop

How to use it:

#3 Whatsapp - a mobile app

Why use whatsapp:

• it's the easiest to find people on it (it's just their phone number)

• most people already have it

How to use it:

Many people don't know you can call multiple people on whatsapp but if you create a group chat with the people you want to call and click the call button in the top right corner, you can select the people you want to call! The downfall of using this app however, is that you can only call a maximum of three other people per call.

GAMES GAMES GAMES

Online apps:

• UNO is an app verion of the card game, which allows you to play uno with your friends or with strangers online.

• TableTopia is a site that has hundreds of board games and card games to play, such as Chess, and “Sub Terra”. You can even choose the suggested age range for each game, the number of players and the length of time per game!

• apples vs humanity is an app that works a lot like cards against humanity and is for older plays (16+).

• skribbl.io If you and your friends like playing pictionary then you'll love this game!

• Netflix party is an app for watching movies with your friends and is very easy to use.

Games that don't require a download:

• good old truth or dare - everyone loves truth or dare and its a great way to get your friends to admit secrets and strengthen your bond [stay tuned for a future TorD post]

• make a burn book >:) - although i would discourage writing about real peopl, it's still fun to talk about drama, specificallythe drama surrounding fictional characters (e.g. an anime character).

• fashion show - why not dress up in your best clothes and take photos?

• make your own movie/ TV show - This is one of my favourite games and is always fun to play with friends. All you have to do is : make your characters, choose your actors, choose the setting, and make the story.

• one word per sentace - this game can get hecktic ery fast and to play it, you take turns saying one word to build a sentance/story.
